We’re all friends here, aren’t we? Wonderful. Time to get real this Friday.
We hate being a giant spider.
There - we said it. Yes, as detailed in All Hallows’ Dreams: Ghost Train - available to play right now in Dreams, wink wink, nudge nudge - we’ve fallen afoul of a Halloween curse. While we’ve tried to make the best of it with our spooky new rebrand, it’s been four whole weeks now. There are only so many flies you can eat without seriously questioning the life decisions that led you up to that point.
It’s even affecting our work: with all our regular thoughts consumed by the spiderlings feeding on the quivering jelly of our brain - kids, eh? - we simply can’t stop recommending spider-based creations. We wish we could talk about anything else, we really do. Anyway, without further ado, here are five of our spideriest spiders to spider in Spiders this weekend.
Help.
Peacock’n#
Everybody knows that if you want to attract an eight-legged mate, you’ve got to shake what your mama gave you. Judging by the sparkly abdomen, this funky little friend’s mama appears to have been a disco ball. Surely only Dreams could bring you this toe-tapping interactive tale of spider courtship, in which you press buttons to perform seductive moves to venwave’s jazzy tunes. Jumps, leg wiggles, sashays and - most importantly - glittery booty-shaking are the keys to success. They will also help you in this videogame.

Predators vs Produce Tower Defense#
by Aecert and duckenomics
Vegetables? Nasty. Horrible things. Morally bankrupt. Predators? Excellent creatures. Beautiful, even. Team up with them to protect the world from endless waves of alien produce in this tactical tower defence game. You’re given a sum of money with which to purchase your predators - each with their own special abilities - and the freedom to place them as you see fit along the path leading to the vegetables’ end goal, with the aim of letting as few foodstuff through as possible. Things start slow with bumbling tomatoes - but you’ll soon be battling more aggressive combined waves of speedy asparagus, self-healing carrots and unstoppable cantaloupes. Play it smart with your predator choices, and you’ll soon accumulate enough money to buy more tigers, chimps, alligators and eagles than even Joe Exotic dared dream. Our personal recommendation, of course, is to build an all-spider map for style points.

The Halloween Of Tara The Tarantula#
by julio_grr
Awwww, just look at her. How can you say no to that face? This sweet little tarantula is having a grand old time chilling out in the mouth of a grinning jack-o’-lantern, rubbing her fuzzy pedipalps together thinking about all of the children she’s going to horrify this Halloween. The texture of the pumpkin itself is remarkably detailed - as is the subtle shifting of Tara’s legs and body, which really helps this scene feel truly alive.

An Unexpected Guest#
Made for the ‘Expect The Unexpected’ jam, this unsurprisingly starts out as one thing, then morphs into something else entirely. Arachnophobes beware (and if you’ve read this far - bless your hearts): play this in the optional VR mode at your peril. Even we were freaked out by a spider crawling directly onto our faces, and we’re at least 84% arachnid these days. Mind you, we were definitely more shocked by what happened after we got the spider drunk. From underground escape room to full-blown musical: only in Dreams.

Toyah Destroya#
by girlfromcroydon, hymen_trouble and The_Tenia
One of 2020’s best and brightest, Toya Destroya is a masterfully designed, impeccably well-balanced twin-stick shooter. It recalls arcade classics such as Robotron, with spawning insectoid enemies skittering in close as you dash around the arena looking for new angles of attack. Break blocks to find powerups for your weapon, collect skills such as a dash explosion or extra shields, destroy transmitters, squish spider bosses, and work your way up the scoreboards by collecting orbs - and staying alive. Hugely compulsive and elegantly assembled with a variety of modes to keep you hooked, expect to return to this one over again and again.
