Something’s gone wrong!
Here's some common gotchas and how to solve them.
Why does my laser beam puzzle not work?#
When you placed your laser puzzle pieces did you have grid snap or obey auto guides on? We highly recommend placing the pieces with obey auto guides on, as their auto guides have grid snap set on them so they can only be placed in a way that works. If you've placed them off-grid, try placing them again with obey auto guides on.
My logic isn’t doing what I expected#
Did you know that in Dreams there’s a test mode? You'll find it in the Modes menu. Using this you can play your game through but in edit mode, allowing you to watch your logic firing (provided it isn’t emitted). Open up all your microchips and pin them to the screen, and watch everything light up as it’s powered (or not...), and try and figure out what’s happening. You can also use a text displayer as a visual means of knowing when logic is happening too. How long the text lasts also tells you how long it’s firing for.
The Dungeon Troll is too hard, can I make it easier?#
Scope in to the troll with + twice to see a microchip at its feet called Troll. Open that up with + and look for the Health microchip. Open it up with + a health manager called (helpfully) Health Manager. Make sure it's that one and not the one called Troll Club. Tweak Health Manager with + and notice that the Troll has a whopping 500 Max Health. Press and hold over it and drag to the left to adjust the value downwards, or press + to manually type in a value. Give it a play and find the level that you think is best.
For the more advanced dreamers out there - think about adding different difficulty levels. Keyframe the Max Health to be higher on a harder difficulty and lower on easier ones.
Why won’t this cool key I found work as a boss key for my dungeon?#
No matter how cool that key is, it won’t have the same logic that the Collectable Key in the Dungeon Crawler Template: Elements collection has. If you really want to change all of your keys to look like the one you found, you could swap the sculpture, but you’ll need to be confident with bringing elements between scopes. There’s a great lesson on this in the Character Tutorial in the Dreams Workshop.
Make sure your chosen key doesn’t have any logic in it. Then make a remix of the Collectable Key. Inside that element, hold your new key and press + on the Collectable Key so you can see its microchip. Grab the microchip and snap it onto your new key by holding while you’re holding it. Now save this new key and give it a test to see if it works.
