Day 1 of DreamsCom was a banger of a show, with our stream containing reveals, surprises, and special guests! Oh, you didn’t watch the stream? First of all, how very dare you. Secondly: it’s no problem, because we’ve got your rundown of all the big reveals right here, you lucky duck.
- We started the first day of streams off right by showing you round this year’s DreamsCom show floor, the hub for all things DreamsCom ’22!
- Abbie joined us to walk us through the latest Media Molecule happenings and what we’re working on. This included building our new scalable Dreams server, the development of our exciting new studio space, and what we’re envisioning for the future of Dreams!
- Next up, John and Liam popped by to tease the very cool Sticker Mode, a new Create feature arriving in the next Create TLC patch coming later this year. John also showcased a few uses of it in the upcoming Mm Original, Tren, giving us a new look at the game! Stay tuned for more details on Tren in the future.
- Last but not least, Sarah was joined by Luke from BAFTA Games(opens in new tab) to introduce the #MadeInDreams edition of the BAFTA Young Games Designers(opens in new tab) Idea Generator. This initiative will help budding games developers get their ideas out there, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.
Wow, that was lot! But don't worry, there's a whole lot more DreamsCom goodness coming your way over the next couple of days. If you want to catch all the excitement live, we'll be streaming our Day 2 coverage over on Twitch(opens in new tab) and TikTok(opens in new tab) from 5PM BST today.
If you can't wait for the streams (and who could blame you), you can jump into our DreamsCom '22 Magazine for more info, secrets and fun right now!
And obviously, DreamsCom '22 is happening right now in Dreams, so why not pop down to the show floor and get involved in the fun?
And now, some bonus coMmunity highlights from DreamsCom '22 Day 1. This is only available in English for the time being.
Thanks, Past Liam! Present Jen stepping in here, with some up-to-the-minute deets and sweet extra content from Day 1 at DreamsCom '22.
First off - wow. What a reaction to this year's show floor. The whole team has been practically gobbling up your impressions across social media. Reactions such as:
"Always blown away by @mediamolecule(opens in new tab) and the coMmunity, DreamsCom '22 looks absolutely gorgeous"
"My DreamsCom '22 winner: the booth where the warthog is chasing the bunny carrying a diamond!"
"DreamsCom '22 making me tear up. Dreams is such an amazing place to create and see others' boundless creativity, the set design of these Halls and the Booths filled with SO much personality and individuality it's SUCH a sight to behold, lucky to be here"
There was lots of love for Peter Field's fabulous pre-show, too, in which he ran a live level design huddle for the coMmunity to join in with. Thanks, Pete! Here's just a small snippet of appreciation:
"Day 1 and DreamsCom '22 has already delivered. Really excited about the new text gadget projections, and I adore the character models in the event. Even found a secret. Will need to re-watch the level design huddle to absorb some more info as my brain kept trying to art my blocks."
Demo Of The Day#
Our curation team's selection for Day 1's Demo Of The Day was... STRAIN, by Orksom!
(Requires that you own Dreams)
This surreal puzzle-platformer is a banger, but don't just take our word for it. Check out this high praise from the creator of Red and the Cursed Isles and the Let's Talk Dreams series:
"Strain demo is 10/10 loved it. Would buy it. Play it."
A Funny Clip#
Left to his own devices on Day 1, Tom was up to his usual shenanigans. He blames this intro fail(opens in new tab) on Cursed Connie's arcane influence, but we're not convinced. (Catch our Lead Create Programmer, Liam, unhelpfully getting even more out-of-frame. Absolute scenes.)
Out-Of-Context Quote Of The Day#
"Any last words??"
Hollie Tang, Community Manager
See you from 4pm BST today over on Twitch(opens in new tab) for Day 2! Can't wait.
The Dreams User Guide is a work-in-progress. Keep an eye out for updates as we add more learning resources and articles over time.
