7 Of The Best... Curators in Dreams

There's something particularly special about our coMmunity curators. The unsung heroes who work tirelessly to bring together the best and most unique creations in the Dreamiverse, and try to provide some sort of order to the chaos. Given their pivotal role to Dreams, we felt like it was about time they got their own article expressing how great they are.

The problem is - and it's a good problem to have, admittedly - there's just too darn many excellent curators to choose from. So we dusted off the old '7 Of The Best' article format to celebrate a select few of the many brilliant curators out there, and here we are!

Curators are creating an impressive variety of collections, covering all sorts of themes and approaches. But you'll see that below when you start scrolling, as we feature one of their best and brightest collections to represent their approach to curating in Dreams. So, without further ado, here are 7 of the best curators in Dreams.

by LadyLexUK

When you think about some of the most prolific and thorough curators in Dreams, one name often comes up: LadyLexUK. And for good reason, as this creator has been following the goings on in the Dreamiverse fervently ever since the Dreams beta. The result of which is this collection - 5 Star Dreams, a selection of some of the creme de la creme of Dreams. Featuring platforming classics like Trip's Voyage, and spooky horror like Trauma, this collection is a veritable who's who of Dreams creators.

But there's more! LadyLexUK has crafted a whole load of curatorial goodies, with numerous collections focused on the most popular Dreams by year, as well as more personal picks showing off creations they decided to highlight on their own streams. And as a creator and successful voice actor in their own right, they're also featured in a number of interesting Dreams creations. They even went so far as to create the Lexi Awards, an analogue to The Impy Awards that explore their own personal picks of that year's crop of the Dreams harvest. Could you tell we were looking out the window at a farm when we wrote that?

There are two equally realistic scenarios where you might be in need of this particular collection. One: it's 3am - you just can't get to sleep, and counting those adorably fluffy sheep isn't doing anything to help. Two: it's 3am and you're absolutely wide awake after an absolute mad one, and need to keep the party going. Either way, you've come to exactly the right place that you need to be. Dreams@3am somehow combines the slow, surreal, and soothing with the wild, wicked and wacky to great effect - creating a trippy collection that both relaxes and excites.

It's for this reason that FlashMedallion is one of the best curators in Dreams, as they've brought this wonderful collection into our lives. Featuring soothing visualisers like Dream-Cheese that let you flow along a calm beach, and pumping displays like Synesthesia that remind you that the night is yet young through their pulsing colours and dubby music, this is a collection that initially feels like it shouldn't work, but absolutely comes together. The Dreamiverse finds a way. An electic yet highly refined mix of content that goes to show the breadth of FlashMedallion's ability to pull together a coherent and engaging collection.

UGLY SOFA GAMING'S TOP 10 COLLECTION#

by UglySofaGaming

UglySofaGaming are a pillar of the Dreams coMmunity, helping to spread the word of Dreams out to the masses through their in-depth and focused YouTube channel that primarily explores Dreams creations. A lot of their collections are focused on what they're exploring in their YouTube videos, but what makes them part of the best curators in Dreams is how consistently they update and add to their collections. Basically, if you were to watch any of their videos, you'll be able to find whatever they were playing easily in-game.

In true UglySofaGaming style, the creations they play are a wild mix, covering all genres and styles of game based on whatever they find interesting at the time. However, everything they do play is of high quality, so you can guarantee a fun and unique time every time. On top of that, there are a couple of themed seasonal collections that they've created as well - so if you wanna get your holiday on, you know where to go.

Breaking down games into specific genres can be pretty difficult. Many games borrow from other genres and incorporate features that you would expect to see in a horror title over into an FPS. So spare a thought for OcularFixation, who has been categorically organising the Dreamiverse, and finding some of the best in each genre to represent that particular style of experience. But as well as the usual genre based categories, they've thrown some more distinct ones in there, like 'Unique' - which celebrates creations that don't necessarily fit into any particular category. This has become home to classics like Brocery Store and Caféwave (Animated Painting) which are definitely beyond the boundaries of most genres. Categorical Games reads like a museum of Dreams classics, and the extensive work that has gone into bringing these genre collections together is why they are one of the best curators in Dreams.

The Dreamiverse Deep Dive Collection#

by schreppybroepke and Camian

Here's a really refreshing take on the curation format, taking a deep dive on a particular Dreams creation and creator, livestreaming it out to the coMmunity, and then adding those creations to a collection regularly. schreppybroepke and Camian's collaboration has been fruitful at helping to promote and share the work of creators who are doing interesting things with the Dreams toolset, and might not have received the level of attention they deserve. This collection is important due to showcasing the ways that Dreams creator can lift each other up and support each other to reach a wider audience.

Some of the creators that have been featured in the livestreams include VectorSlinger, Orksom, and of course the amazing DreamsComTeam, whose coMmunity crafted festival effort is one of the best things we've seen made in Dreams. It's such a positive effort by The Dreamiverse Deep Dive to promote and bring focus to some creators that might have flown slightly under the radar. But whilst the collection itself is interesting, it's the mix of the livestreaming and deep dive aspects that make them a true standout.

Dreamiverse Games I Love to Keep Playing#

by FluffyNSassy

FluffyNSassy, as hinted at by the name, has to be one of the most wholesome coMmunity members in Dreams, constantly trying to uplift and support other members of the coMmunity. And we wanted to celebrate them by picking out this collection as a particular highlight, that brings together addictive and simple games that you can keep coming back to time and time again. This collection features a fantastic mix of timewasters and high-score chasers, and one of our personal favourites of the bunch has to be the tricky but satisfying Castle Catch. There's also a whole bunch of Paulo-Lameiras creations in there unsurprisingly, and it's a real insight into one of the most positive people creating in Dreams. We should also shout out another one of their collections that we absolutely adore - the Trans Day of Visibility 2023 collection that they made this year, to help show off and showcase the amazing creations that trans Dreamers are making within the Dreamiverse. FluffyNSassy clearly takes the time to both search for interesting Dreamiverse creations, and support others through their curation, and that definitely makes them one of the best curators in Dreams.

Architecture & Design#

by VantaBlack16

This is a great example of how curation can be used to focus on people's specific Dreamiverse interests, and help to inspire others by picking out some of the best examples of that subject matter. Focusing on Architecture & Design, VantaBlack16's collection explores their clear interest in creating buildings that both look nice and are functional, which is a very important part of both the real world, and our digital Dreamiverse. And it's a theme ripe for exploration, as there is so much brilliant architecture and design in dreams that it makes perfect sense to assemble some of the best together for people to learn from.

There's a lot of excellent designs featured, including the gorgeous Quartier de Misu, the sensationally surreal HAUS OF BEVIS, and the very obvious but no less deserving appearance of The Idyllium. But VantaBlack16 has more interests than making buildings look nice; they've also come up with a few other themed collections that bring together the best examples of those fields, such as Entertainment, collections featuring their own creations, and bringing together coMmunity activities such as the Community Garden Showcase.
