Template Guides Setup

Auto Guides#

A small number of the template elements contain Auto Guides for easy placement. However in general we focus on using Snap Points for placing elements instead.

Grid Snap#

All of the Snap Points and elements in Tren were created on the Grid. Use the default 1:1 Grid setting to move elements and they should all go together fairly well. You may sometimes find you want to move some track supports or other elements with Snap Points off - Grid Snap will help you here as long as the Grid is aligned to the angle of the element you’re moving (e.g. a ramp’s slope).

It's good practice to stamp your first track piece down with Grid Snap on, as then everything will remain on the Grid if you then want to use Grid Snap further down the line.

Precise Move#

Precise Move can help in a similar way to Grid Snap. With Precise Move and Snap Points on you can easily make angled changes, helpful when making supports for your tracks.

Snap Points#

Snap Points are the go-to when it comes to Tren. The elements in the kit have been created with Snap Points in mind and use them as much as possible. However when placing art elements, we recommend using Grid Snap, Precise Move, or no Guides at all if you want specific placement. In some of the template scenes we have Snap Points turned on by default, and we strongly advise turning on Snap Points when creating your own Tren tracks.

This will give you the smoothest experience when creating your tracks. If you find you have moments where Snap Points are fighting, it’s generally because elements are close together. Try moving some out of the way, or using Grid Snap for the odd element at times. Otherwise Snap Points are the dream Guide you never knew you needed!

The Dreams User Guide is a work-in-progress. Keep an eye out for updates as we add more learning resources and articles over time.
