Related Creations & Versions

Sometimes when you try to delete or release a creation you may be asked to delete or release another creation because the creations are related. What’s that all about?

This page will cover:

When you stamp a LOCAL creation into another LOCAL creation, this creates a relationship between them. These creations are now related to each other. This applies to:

  • Stamping Elements into (other) Elements
  • Stamping Elements into Scenes
  • Stamping Scenes or Dreams into Dreams
  • Stamping Elements, Scenes or Dreams into Collections

In addition, if you remix any LOCAL creation (Element, Scene, Dream, Collection) then the original LOCAL creation and its LOCAL remix will be related to each other.

Relationships between creations matter because Dreams needs to confirm your permissions to use them, and to maintain genealogy.

When deleting a creation you'll sometimes be asked to delete a related LOCAL creation.

It’s worth noting that if you have ONLINE versions (PRIVATE, PLAYABLE or PUBLIC) of those related LOCAL creations, and they are your latest versions, you can safely go ahead and delete the LOCAL ones. But if you only have them as LOCAL versions, you’re going to want to save them ONLINE!

TOP TIP!

Always save online! You don’t have to release stuff before you’re ready, you can just save online as PRIVATE until you are. Once stuff is online, everything is smoother!

Example: Deleting Stamped Creations

Illustrating the example for deleting related LOCAL creations.

Illustrating the example for deleting related LOCAL creations.

Let’s say you make a Tree Element and save it LOCALLY, then stamp it into a Forest Scene which is also saved LOCALLY. In this example:

  • If you try to delete the Tree Element [1] then you will be asked to delete the Forest Scene [2]
  • If you try to delete the Forest Scene [2] then you will not be asked to delete the Tree Element [1]

REMEMBER!

In the above example, if you were to release the Forest Scene online as PRIVATE (which will also save the Tree Element online as PRIVATE - see more below), you are then free to delete the whole Tree Element without also having to delete the online version of the Forest Scene.

In this case, when you try to delete the whole Tree Element (i.e. LOCAL and online versions) you’ll still be asked to confirm deletion of the LOCAL copy of the Forest Scene. This is normal! The LOCAL relationship is still there via the LOCAL versions, so Dreams just has to check with you that it’s okay to delete. And it is, because you have it online!

Example: Deleting Remixed Creations

Let’s say you make a Tree Element and save it as LOCAL, then remix this Tree Element and save it as a LOCAL Tree remix. In this example:

  • If you try to delete the original Tree Element then you will be asked to delete the remix Tree Element.
  • If you try to delete the remix Tree Element then you will not be asked to delete the original Tree Element.

Deleting related LOCAL creations/versions can be rather complex, so let’s walk through the different ways you can do this.

1 - Go to your profile and select My Creations.

My Creations page showing Delete Local Saves button.

My Creations page showing Delete Local Saves button.

2 - On the My Creations page, select the Delete Local Saves button.

3 - You’ll now find yourself on the Local Deletion page.

4 - Select a creation with a icon next to it - this will take you through the related LOCAL creation/version deletion flow below.

Related Creations page with Delete All button.

5 - You’ll be told which related creations you will also have to delete as a part of this process. Selecting one of the related LOCAL creations will select all the LOCAL creations that need to be deleted.

6 - Hit the Delete All button on the top-right.

7 - You’ll find yourself back on the Local Deletion screen with all of these LOCAL creations/versions now selected. Hit the Delete button at the top-right.

8 - The next screen will ask whether you’re sure you want to delete all these LOCAL versions. Hit the YES button to confirm, and all these LOCAL versions will be deleted.

Note that this process doesn’t delete any online versions, so if the creations have online versions they won’t be deleted completely. However, if you only have LOCAL versions saved of these creations, then they will be deleted outright. So make sure to always save online!

If you do want to delete a creation outright, i.e. all its LOCAL and online versions, you can do this via the cover page. Again, you may encounter the related creation deletion flow. So it’s just as well we’re describing that next!

Cover page with Delete button.

1 - On the cover page of the creation you want to delete, hit the Delete button.

2 - If there are related creations, you’ll arrive at the Delete Local Creations page. Here you’ll see which LOCAL creations are related, should you want to save them online before confirming deletion.

3 - Select one of the related LOCAL creations on the Delete Local Creations page. This will select all creations with LOCAL versions which need to be deleted.

4 - Hit the Delete All button on the top-right.

5 - The next screen will ask whether you’re sure you want to delete all these LOCAL related versions. Hit the Yes button to confirm. All related LOCAL versions will be deleted.

6 - Note: If you have any online versions of the creation being deleted, you’ll see an additional screen which will ask whether you’re sure you want to delete those too (and thus the creation itself). Hit the Yes button to confirm, and the creation will be deleted.

Next, if you want to delete a single LOCAL version (which is described here), you may also encounter a related version deletion flow.

1 - Go to your creation’s cover page (accessible via DreamShaping/My Creations).

5 - On the Version Details page, select the Delete button.

6 - If this deletion involves related versions, you’ll come to the Delete Local Versions page. Here you’ll see which creations have related LOCAL versions, should you want to save them online before confirming deletion.

7 - Select one of the related LOCAL versions on the Delete Local Versions page. This will select all LOCAL versions that need to be deleted.

8 - Hit the Delete All button on the top-right.

9 - The next screen will ask whether you’re sure you want to delete all these LOCAL related versions. Hit the Yes button to confirm. All related LOCAL versions will be deleted.

You also may encounter the related creations flow when you’re trying to release a creation (or version) that is related to another LOCAL creation.

Example: Releasing Stamped Creations

Let’s say you make a Tree Element and save it as LOCAL, then stamp that LOCAL version into a Forest Scene which is also saved as LOCAL. In this example:

  • If you try to release the Forest Scene online, you will be asked to save the Tree Element online.
  • If you try to release the Tree Element online, you will not be asked to save the Forest Scene online.

Example: Releasing Remixed Creations

Let’s say you make a Tree Element and save it as LOCAL, then remix this Tree Element and save it as a LOCAL Tree Remix. In this example:

  • If you try to release the remix Tree Element then you will be asked to save the original Tree Element online.
  • If you try to release the original Tree Element then you will not be asked to save the remix Tree Element online.

So what happens when you’re asked to save a related version online? Let’s walk through it.

1 - Ways to release creations online are covered in detail here. If you are trying to release a creation (or version) that is related to another LOCAL creation, then you’ll encounter the Save Related Versions Online page.

2 - On the Save Related Versions Online page, you’ll see which creations are related and have LOCAL versions that need to be saved online to continue with the release.

3 - Hit the OK button in the top-right to confirm the online save of all the related versions.

For specific examples of Releasing a PUBLIC Version Containing LOCAL/PRIVATE Stamps, which will take you through the Save Related Versions ONLINE page, see here.
