Dreamview Weekly Roundup #41

¡Vaya! Disculpa las molestias, ¡pero en estos momentos nuestros amigos de “Media Molecule” están dándolo todo para traducir este contenido! Por favor, vuelve por aquí en un ratito.

‘Twas the Friday before holidays when, lost in the Dreamiverse,

The Impsider felt lonely (and also quite work-averse).

The Roundup, it beckoned - the last one of the year! -

and our editor, she wondered how to fill it with cheer.

So the Molecules, they gathered with their recommendations

for festive Dreams readers might play on their vacations.

For what are the holidays without our friends there?

And the best gift of all is to Play, Create, Share.

Decorating a Christmas Tree#

For some, the start of the holiday season is marked by a very fancy tree being put up in the home. You’ve probably all seen those cheesy American movies, in which every family member joins in to decorate the thing. But if there’s any Dreams creator that could manage to make that moment even MORE heartwarming, it’s byvsen - and they do just that in this animated short. Watching Green Guy (a very tall lizard) and Bo (a very small dino) decorating their tree, their eyes sparkling with fairy lights, and even breaking out into song at the end will make any dreamer’s heart melt like a freshly-caught snowflake on a fluffy mitten.

Sure, we might be 17 days into December already - but if you’ve been too busy to grab yourself an advent calendar, Team Pig Detective has the perfect gift for you. This interactive curiosity has you gradually reveal the story of ‘Pig Detective and the Christmas Humbugs’ - by opening up a numbered door and fishing out the Pig Detective action figure (complete with classic catchphrases!) within. Hit the square button, and you’ll cycle through four charming pop-up dioramas in which to pose your new toys. Check in every day to open up a new surprise - or just rinse the whole thing at once if you’re chaotic like that. I ain’t judging.

Fun fact, sloth fans: a group of sloths is called a “snuggle”, and there’s no better season to snuggle with your sloth bros than winter itself. You may be asking, however, “What do sloths and winter have in common?” Thankfully, Dreeko pondered that very question and gave us Sloth On Ice, a beautiful interactive experience where you control a sloth as it waltzes, sways and twirls to music. It’s a majestic, tranquil experience that will get you in the mood for the winter season.

A strange holiday tradition, making a little domicile out of biscuit. But we do get to smash the entire thing with our fists afterwards like a festive kaiju and cram it into our horrible sticky maws, which makes it objectively the BEST tradition. Bella_Iris’ ode to this ritual is a delectable asset collection; it contains detailed, low-thermo sections of a gingerbread house with which you can easily assemble your very own delicious structure. You can’t eat the result, obviously, a tragedy that modern technology has not yet addressed (gingerbread printer when?) - but you COULD smash it, given a bit of physics programming magic.

Fuzzy & Snowflake#

Fuzzy & Snowflake was one of the main inspirations behind the creation of The Aww-ward at the 1st Annual Impy Awards - and two years (!) later, it still warms our heart faster than a mug of hot chocolate. The story (told without words) is full of love and warmth, the animations are so gentle, and oh my days I'm getting emotional just thinking about it. This is the type of short and sweet animation that Dreams delivers so well! If you need a cosy watch to get you in the holiday spirit, these two playful foxes have got you covered.
