Dreamview Weekly Roundup #16

※このページは現在英語のみ対応中です。

Sweet 16, baby! That’s right: the Dreamview Weekly Roundup can now - in the UK at least - legally buy a lottery ticket, leave home, drive a moped, and change its name by deed poll. All at the same time! Just kidding, that’d be very dangerous. What? Oh, come on, Weekly Roundup - we’ve talked about this. You can’t just act on every silly thought that pops into your head!

What’s that? You’ll help tell our readers about five brilliant things they can play, watch and admire in Dreams this weekend - but after that, you’re leaving home to join the circus? And you’re also changing your name to Dark Kevin? Oh, man. They grow up so fast. Alright, everybody: presenting this week’s Dreamv- er, Dark Kevin.

TOUCH IT#

by Swecca

Comfortably one of the funniest creations in the Dreamiverse, TOUCH IT appeals to the deepest urge of all museum-goers: to prod what should never be prodded. In this score-chasing thrill-ride, your mission is to touch the priceless artwork on display for as long as possible - without being spotted by the killjoy guard on duty. It plays out like a game of Grandmother’s Footsteps, where you’ll sneak in cheeky pokes (holding vs tapping the button being two very different tactics) as the guard sleeps, but must quickly let go and return to looking like an innocent bystander as soon as they wake up. Swecca shows a masterful understanding of comic timing here: the sudden change in the music and UI as you move between rule-abiding and rule-breaking is side-splittingly funny, as are the ridiculous and improbable touching poses you unlock as your score climbs. Oh, and it’s even museum industry-approved(新しいタブで開く).

Solar Blast DEMO#

by Paulo-Lameiras

The creator of Metal Eagles: UC returns with another exquisitely detailed scrolling shoot-‘em up. Paulo-Lameiras’ affection for ‘80s arcade games shines through every pixel of this demo, which features a stunning atmospheric intro as well as smooth, responsive flying and firing (the full-screen blast feels positively explosive in the hands) as you dodge hazards and extend your combo. Currently, certain obstacles aren’t quite obvious enough - there’s only a slight shade difference between the ones you can collide with and the ones you can’t - but the developer is already working on a fix according to player feedback.

Feel#

by Chazz-i-am

Minimal and strangely peaceful, Feel makes clever use of your controller’s rumble to help you navigate your way through invisible mazes. Having more than one mode of sensory communication is a lovely touch (pun intended) from the developer: tell-tale vibrations when you encounter a wall, combined with the visual feedback, create a challenge that is potentially accessible to a wider audience. There are even shades of Giant Sparrow’s poetic indie adventure The Unfinished Swan in the way your character presses their hands against the white void while looking for their way out, smudging an inky breadcrumb trail along unseen surfaces.

Realistic Horse Showcase#

by willow_the_bob

Beautiful. Strong. Capable of bringing a person to tears with one shake of their silky forelocks. These are just some of the words most commonly used to describe horses. But there are no words needed in this showcase of willow_the_bob’s mind-bogglingly accurate horse puppet. Simply gallop your horse freely around the paddock, the wind in its mane, and admire the incredible precision and attention-to-detail required to recreate this most difficult - and majestic - of walk-run cycles. Best of all, this is a remixable asset, so anyone looking for a realistic rideable horse to feature in their own dream need look no further.

Cooking With Alan#

by B-o-s-c-e

A short animated film made for the recent Recipe Jam, Cooking With Alan is an absolute bouillabaisse of emotion. Affable chef Alan demonstrates how to make garlic butter baked salmon with dill sauce, guided by a mildly French-accented voiceover. So far, so funny. But when Alan balks at a certain instruction in the recipe, the story suddenly shifts into darker, more surreal territory as he briefly wrestles with authority. We laughed; we cried; we came away knowing how to make a delightful dill sauce. What more could one possibly want?
