Something’s gone wrong!

Here’s some common gotchas and how to solve them.

Connie is moving too fast - I don’t like her handling

Dreamiverse Dash is a race, so Connie was designed to have lots of speed and not too much deceleration. This might not suit every player or every race. The easy solution here is scope in to Connie and open the Connie’s Brain microchip with +. Find the Double Speed switch. Try turning that off and see if the handling is more to your liking.

If you want to go further, scope in to Connie and tweak her using +. Her tweak menu will appear. On the first page, the tweaks you want are run speed, acceleration, deceleration, jump height, and air control. Experiment with these to find what works best for you.

Some of the Dreamiverse Dash elements don’t align very well#

Dreamiverse Dash was one of our very first kits. Since then we’ve improved a lot of our best practices, so some of the elements may not align as well as you’d find in the other templates. Luckily the nature of the gameplay means you don’t need to worry if things don’t snap perfectly. And remember that overlaps are absolutely fine for non-moveable scene elements. If you’re having a hard time lining things up, we recommend using the precise move guide instead of grid snap.

Sometimes picking Connie up offsets her from the imp, making it hard to stamp#

Have you been playing and moved Connie away from her start position (where she is when no play at all has happened yet) before switching to edit mode? This is the most common cause of grab points (which is what we call the place designers define for picking elements up) getting messed up. It can happen with any object that moves and in any scene with any kit. The offset you see when picking up the element is usually relative to the amount they’ve moved away from their start position. To check, try rewinding with (or use rewind in the menu). Once you’ve done that, try picking up Connie again. The offset should no longer occur.

Note that this should only ever happen when moving something that’s already been stamped in the scene and has subsequently been moved. It should never occur when stamping something new regardless of whether play time has passed.

The race score and order is wrong. How do I set it to “lowest time wins”?#

It may be that the default scoreboard settings on your Race Gate elements are not set correctly.

Firstly, in edit mode, scope in to the Race Gate with +. You’ll need to scope in a couple of times before you’ll see the Race Start Logic microchip. Open it with +. Then open the Score Logic microchip with +. Find the Best Time gadget. It’s on the far right-hand side, 3rd gadget up. On the 2nd tab, called Default Scoreboard Settings, you’ll find a tweak called better score is…. Make sure that’s set to lower. While you’re there, check that score unit is set to time. Phew!!

If you hit this problem you’ve likely already set a time and posted it to the scoreboard. So you’ll need to go to reset the scoreboards. Go to your dream’s cover page, select Scoreboards, select Edit and then hit the Reset button.
