Play & Edit Walkthrough

This guide takes you through each Play & Edit lesson, to help you out if stuck or if you just want a heads-up on the contents.

Lesson 1#

Help Connie get up there!#

Connie can only jump so high with those little legs, but there’s a couple of ways you can help her get up to the top. In edit mode, turn on obey auto guides in the guides menu. It’ll make your life a little easier when stamping one of the two options.

Use search and head into the Dreamiverse Dash Play & Edit Elements collection. You’ll find an Elevation collection containing a Bounce Pad and a Fan. Stamp either of these into the highlighted circle and head back to play mode to continue on your way.

Lesson 2#

Mind the gap!#

Hey! Someone's stolen the blocks in front of you! Luckily you'll find those blocks in the collection, in Building Blocks. They don’t have any auto guides to help you (what would you snap a floating block to?) so turn on grid snap in the guides menu to help you place them. You want the Decorated Cube, and you'll need 6 of them.

If you're struggling to place them, a couple of tips. Firstly, it's often easier to stamp things in roughly and move them afterwards than to get them positioned on first stamp. Secondly, look at the area from all angles when moving things around. And finally, those pink borders are designed to overlap.

Lesson 3#

Another Climb!#

Poor Connie, another jump that's too high for those legs. But not to worry - we can get her jumping as high as she does in her dreams with a Double-Jump Pick-Up. You'll find one in the Power Ups collection. Stamp one in the highlighted area and head back to play mode to give it a try. Just double-tap and watch Connie perform a mean front flip!

Lesson 4#

Danger, high voltage!#

Well so far the only hazard has been falling off the edge, but now it gets spicy! Those are Hazard Cubes (from the Dreamiverse Dash Starter Kit) ahead of you, along with some deadly gaps. We recommend placing some Decorated Cubes and Bounce Pads. Remember that the cubes are best placed with grid snap on, and the Bounce Pads with obey auto guides. Of course you can use another combination if you prefer. Don’t forget to make sure all the pieces you place line up! The side-on camera view you start with helps there.

Lesson 5#

Down below...#

Someone has fiendishly filled in our path, but we can use delete to help Connie on her way. Hover your imp over the blocks and an outline will appear around them. Once you see that outline just press to delete the block. Repeat for all four blocks. Don’t worry - we’ve used freeze to make everything else here non-editable, so you can’t accidentally delete the wrong things.

Lesson 6#

Shortcuts#

When creating a game with time constraints, it's fun to add shortcuts which add a little risk. That way the player feels rewarded for carefully controlling their character down a harder route to save precious time, earning that scoreboard position. On the other hand they could ruin their perfect run...

So let's add a shortcut. You’ve got all the items in the collection to give you some different options. You could make a long narrow path, or something more tricky like Fans and Bounce Pads with no floor. The world is your oyster! Create a shortcut and carry on through the level.

Lesson 7#

Is this thing safe?#

Connie can’t think of anything more enjoyable than a gazillion boosts up a scary ramp and across a deadly gap. Let's make her wildest dreams come true. We’ve already got one Boost Pad at the top of the ramp, so let's clone it. Turn off grid snap as it won’t be your friend in this scenario. Turn on obey auto guides instead. Hover over the Boost Pad, press and hold , then press . The clone will be on your imp. Let go of , position the clone, and let go of to stamp it. Repeat for the other pads.

Or, if you want to be fancy, try repeat clone. After you've let go of , just press a few times to make more clones. Move your controller to position them and let go of to stamp them.

Lesson 8#

Finish it!#

What’s a race without a finish gate? It couldn’t be simpler to get this race finished. Head into the collection and go to the Race Gates & Checkpoint sub-collection. Get yourself a Race Finish Gate (Template Version) and stamp it in the highlighted spot. Run Connie’s little legs through it and you’ve created your first Dreamiverse Dash level!

Amazing job!#

Who knew creating a race with shortcuts and hazards and extra abilities would be so easy?! We recommend popping into the Dreamiverse Dash Foundation now and having a go at creating your own level. You even get some more pieces to play with!
