Tools

Tools for playing around with the flecks in your sculptures and paintings. Results can be combined with coat and effects, so experiment.

With each tool, you can carefully adjust one item at a time using the imp tip, or you can use the volume brush to capture a lot of stuff at once.

After selecting a tool, press and a wireframe shape will appear on your imp tip. Press to make it bigger and to make it smaller.

Now when you use that tool, anything inside the volume brush will be affected. This is great for making expressive changes to large scenes.

For example, if you want to vary the texture of a large scene, using the volume brush to sweep ruffle over it will give it variation.

Undo

Mistakes happen. But you can learn from them. Sometimes you can even embrace them. If you don't want to, however, there's always undo.

Just press over the button and your last action will be undone. Press it again for the action before that. You can undo everything to the start of your session if needs be.

There's also a shortcut for this - just press to undo.

SuperStyle Motion Controllers Only

A special tool only available with motion controllers. Applies fleck, loosens and combs all-in-one. It's a good way to quickly add some style, but it's also very expressive.

It applies fleck instantly, rather than gradually like apply fleck does normally. You can adjust the looseness and impasto as you work.

For looseness, with superstyle equipped, press and hold on and twist away from to increase it, or toward to decrease it.

Apply Fleck

Use this to change the fleck type of your sculpture or painting. Pick a new fleck type, hover over the object and press and hold .

Fleck change happens gradually, so if you stop before it's done you can get a lovely mix of two fleck types. If you want to substitute the flecks completely, keep holding .

Looseness

Use this to adjust the looseness of the flecks in your creations. Hover over something and press and hold and the flecks will gradually loosen.

Press to change to subtract and reverse the effect, tightening the flecks up again. Note that you can't go any tighter than the object was originally.

Impasto

In art, impasto is a technique whereby you lay paint thickly to give your painting texture. This gives you a similar effect.

When you apply impasto, your flecks will swell and layer up, becoming more 3D. In paintings it will give your strokes depth and texture just like a real painting.

In sculptures this can give you all sorts of effects depending on the fleck. For example, pick streaky and use impasto on that and you'll get a furry look.

Just select impasto and hover over the sculpture or stroke. Then press and hold to gradually apply it. Reverse the effect by switching to subtract using

Use this to change the direction of your flecks. Results will vary depending on the fleck used. Select comb and hover over a sculpture or painting.

Press while moving the imp in the direction you want the flecks to lie and let go of when you're happy.

This will randomize the directions of the individual flecks, like when you muss up someone's hair. Select ruffle and hover over a sculpture or a painting.

This will organise the flecks in your sculpture along gridlines. Select neatness and hover over a sculpture.

Press and hold and the flecks will gradually organise themselves. Press to switch to subtract to reverse the effect. Very useful for representing things like tiles.

Revert

When you're finessing a piece of art, undo can be a bit of a blunt instrument. You may not want to completely undo what you've done, but just dial it back a bit.

Revert lets you do that. Select it, hover over the thing you went a bit OTT on, and press (or press and hold) till you're happy.
