Dreams Content Usage Terms

Welcome to Dreams! We want you to be able to use Dreams to bring your creations to life. But there are some important rules that you need to follow when you’re using Dreams or if you want to use your creations outside of Dreams. For more information read these “Usage Terms”.

By continuing to use Dreams, you agree to be bound by these Usage Terms and the Core Rules (set out below in section 3.1).

Here’s a link to these Usage Terms for your future reference: [https://docs.indreams.me/en/game-info/legal/dreams-content-usage-terms]

  1. Who are we?

  • 1.1. We are Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). We publish Dreams on behalf of Media Molecule. Media Molecule is the developer for Dreams and has its registered office at 10 Great Marlborough Street, London, W1F 7LP.

  1. Why do these Usage Terms exist?

  • 2.1. Dreams allows you to create your own content (we call these your “Creations”) using the Dream creation tools within Dreams.
  • 2.2. Our Core Rules (see section 3.1 below for more information on what these are) say that you cannot use your Creations outside of Dreams for commercial purposes, unless we give you our express permission. Provided you comply with all of the requirements and restrictions set out in these Usage Terms and the Core Rules, we give you permission to use your Creations outside of Dreams for your own commercial and non-commercial purposes, which may include but not be limited to using your Creations in relation to books, graphic novels, comic books, merchandise (for example, apparel, stickers, mugs), soundtracks, music videos, artwork, concept designs, and animation.

  1. What are the rules that I need to follow?

  • 3.1. There are various sets of rules that apply to you whenever you play or access Dreams. These rules are the:
  • 3.2. In addition to the Core Rules, you’ll need to follow these Usage Terms whenever you use any of your Creations outside of Dreams. You should make sure to read these Usage Terms in full before you try to use your Creations outside of Dreams for any reason.
  • 3.3. When it comes to any restrictions on using your Creations outside of Dreams, these Usage Terms take precedence over the Core Rules. In all other areas, the Core Rules take precedence over these Usage Terms and continue to apply to you.

  1. What are the limits when using my Creations outside of Dreams?

  • 4.1. Provided you follow the rules set out in these Usage Terms (particularly the restrictions in section 4.2 below), these Usage Terms allow you to use your Creations or copies of your Creations outside of Dreams for your own personal or commercial purposes. For example, a commercial purpose may include using your Creations on physical items (such as t-shirt prints or posters) that you sell or sharing video or music Creations on content sharing sites that allow you to monetise your content. A personal purpose may be using your Creation on a t-shirt for yourself, but in each case, these permitted uses are subject always to section 4.2 below.
  • 4.2. In addition, in order for us to grant permission to you to use your Creations outside of Dreams you must also:
    • 4.2.1. ensure that your Creations are original, solely created by you and do not infringe any rights (including, but not limited to, any intellectual property rights, image rights or privacy rights) belonging to any third parties;
    • 4.2.2. be aged 18 or over;
    • 4.2.3. ensure that your Creations always abide by the PSN Code of Conduct (included in the PSN Terms);
    • 4.2.4. Subject to sections 4.2.5.1 to 4.2.5.4 (inclusive), ensure that you do not use, and your Creations do not include or incorporate, any ‘MmOfficial creations’ (see here), ‘Mm DreamQueen creations’ (see here), or any other content which is identified as created by Media Molecule or is licensed to SIE (including officially licensed voice over content) in Dreams, and that you do not recreate or reproduce any of the foregoing in your Creations;
    • 4.2.5. Ensure your Creations do not include or incorporate any officially licensed music for Dreams. However, you are permitted to use the following Media Molecule content for the purposes of your Creations:
    • 4.2.5.1. “Music Clips” (see here);
    • 4.2.5.2. “Remix Parts” (see here);
    • 4.2.5.3. “Mm Instruments” (see here); and
    • 4.2.5.4. “Mm Sound Effects” (see here);
    • 4.2.6. not use any audio material contained in the sound libraries in Dreams to create, reproduce, or replicate any new sound libraries;
    • 4.2.7. not reproduce, recreate or use in any manner whatsoever SIE’s registered trademarks or trademarks (including but not limited to “PlayStation”, the “PlayStation” family logo, “PS5” or any related logo, “PS4” or any related logo, or “DREAMS”) or Sony Group Corporation’s registered trademarks or trademarks (including but not limited to “SONY”) within or in connection with your Creations whatsoever;
    • 4.2.8. agree to be bound by these Usage Terms and, where appropriate, the Core Rules when making Creations and using Dreams online or offline;
    • 4.2.9. consent to us contacting you in relation to your Creations; and
    • 4.2.10. except as expressly provided in these Usage Terms or the Core Rules, you agree not to use, modify, reproduce, distribute, sell, license or otherwise use Dreams without our permission.

  1. What if I want to use other people’s Creations or ideas outside of Dreams?

  • 5.1. Whilst we want Dreams to be a collaborative space, we also want you to be aware of the legal limits that apply to you if you want to use other people’s Creations outside of Dreams. This is because, much like the Creations that you make in Dreams, each user has their own rights (called intellectual property rights) in the Creations that they make. This means that if you use someone’s Creation outside of Dreams (including for the uses set out in section 4.1) without their permission, you may be infringing their intellectual property rights. See section 7 for more information on the potential consequences.
  • 5.2. Unless you have permission from the applicable person to use their Creation outside of Dreams (see section 5.3 below) you should only use your Creations outside of Dreams if they are entirely original and solely created by you.
  • 5.3. To keep Dreams as a space that respects people’s creativity and ingenuity, if you really like someone’s Creation and you want to use all or part of it outside of Dreams, you may need to consider their intellectual property rights and:
    • 5.3.1. reach out to the user that made the Creation;
    • 5.3.2. let the user know what you’re planning to do;
    • 5.3.3. ask for the user’s permission to use their Creation for your intended purpose outside of Dreams; and
    • 5.3.4. seek confirmation that the other user’s Creation is also original, and if their Creation includes any other user’s or third party’s content, then you may need to ensure the relevant consents are obtained by those users or third parties for your intended purpose.
  • 5.4. You should only proceed if the user gives you permission to use their Creation and you can stick to any agreement that you make with them, keeping in mind the considerations in section 5.1. It’s your responsibility to seek out the correct person(s) to ensure you have the correct permissions for what you want to do outside of Dreams. To the full extent permissible by law, we will not be responsible or liable whatsoever for facilitating, obtaining, procuring, or enabling any users to secure any necessary consents, waivers or permissions from other users or third parties.
  • 5.5. You also need to make sure that your Creations do not contain any other third-party intellectual property rights (which may include intellectual property rights belonging to us or Media Molecule) that might exist outside of Dreams, unless you have the necessary consents or approvals in place. This means you should not make Creations that uses anyone else’s trademarks, logos, characters, music or artworks etc. For more information see the Core Rules (particularly the “Copyright Violation” section in the Dreams Moderation Guidelines). To the full extent permissible by law, we will not be liable or assume any responsibility whatsoever in the event your Creations outside of Dreams infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.

  1. If I use my content outside of Dreams, will you be able to use it too?

  • 6.1. Yes. In the Core Rules we set out our rights that allow us to use your Creations without payment to you. Even if you choose to use your Creations outside of Dreams, we may still use your Creations as set out in the Core Rules.

  1. What happens if I don’t follow these rules?

  • 7.1. If we find out that your Creation does not comply with these Usage Terms or the Core Rules we may remove your content from Dreams.
  • 7.2. If you a rights holder and want to submit a copyright infringement notice for content found in Dreams you can do that here. For other issues you can report in-game content using the menu with the "!" icon that you'll find at the top right of the screen when viewing the cover page of a Creation or under any comment in the Dreamiverse.
  • 7.3. The Creations that you make using Dreams, if original, belong to you (although we still retain some rights relating to your Creations, such as those detailed in section 6). This means that:
    • 7.3.1. you are primarily and solely responsible and liable for how you use your Creations outside of Dreams; and
    • 7.3.2. you may be held responsible if your Creations infringes anyone else’s rights or is illegal in any way.
  • 7.4. If you use your Creations for commercial purposes you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sony Interactive Entertainment, Media Molecule and our respective officers, directors, employees and agents from and against any claims, proceedings, disputes, demands, liabilities, damages, losses, costs and expenses, including (without limitation) reasonable legal and accounting fees (including costs of defence of claims or proceedings brought by third parties), in any way related to your access to or use of Dreams, your Creations or your breach of any of these Usage Terms or the Core Rules.

  1. Can you make changes to these Usage Terms?

  • 8.1. Yes, we may make changes to these Usage Terms. If the changes are reasonable, because they are minor and justified, we will give you reasonable notice of the changes. Otherwise, we will ask you to accept the new Usage Terms before you access Dreams again.

  1. Governing law and jurisdiction

  • 9.1. If you are using Dreams as a consumer:
    • 9.1.1. these Usage Terms, any contracts formed in accordance with them and any disputes we may have in connection with them will be governed by and determined according to the laws of England and Wales but you will have the additional protection of the mandatory laws of the country in which you live. The mandatory laws of the country in which you live take priority over the laws of England and Wales.
    • 9.1.2. we can enforce these Usage Terms in a court of the country in which you live.
    • 9.1.3. you can enforce these Usage Terms in a court in the country in which you live, or in England and Wales.
  • 9.2. To the extent you are using Dreams other than as a consumer, or you are using your Creations for commercial purposes:
    • 9.2.1. These Usage Terms, any contracts formed in accordance with them and any disputes we may have in connection with them will be governed by and determined according to the laws of England and Wales; and
    • 9.2.2. the courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction.
